Learning Opportunities Beyond The School Day After 3 is an opportunity for your child to be engaged in unique learning and growing experiences after school and on selected Saturdays. Register your child for a specific class that meets weekly across a session or in Activity Power Hour, where those enrolled have the opportunity to choose their preferred activity for the day like Newman Summer Day Camp. Activities include visual arts, sports, technology, performing arts, camp games, and more. Experienced Staff The staff includes many Newman faculty members and Newman Summer instructors who lead classes, group activities and private music lessons. Counselor support is provided by carefully selected college students, graduate students, and professionals. Flexible Enrollment Available Monday through Friday throughout the school year, 3:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. Register your child by the session (Fall, Winter, Spring) or as a “Drop-In” at an hourly rate any day.

Activity Power Hour - Art
Open to Newman students only
Each day, 1st through 5th grade students participating in Activity Power Hour will choose between a variety of activities lead by specialist instructors in the categories of art, sports, and technology. Additional rotating surprise choices will include things like cooking, yoga, music appreciation, improv, puppetry, and more. Mixed Media - Students will experiment with using multiple visual arts media to create one piece of artwork. We will cover techniques such as collage, assemblage, and transfers and use them with traditional art-making practices such as drawing and painting. Wearable Arts - From jewelry and handmade bags to suits of armor, students will design and create unique pieces that can be worn on the body. We will practice the process of design and construction of functional artwork. Students will explore a range of inspirational resources from the fashion world to natural world. Color Theory - Students will learn all about the magical world of color! We will examine the work of color experts such Joseph Albers and Mark Rothko to understand how these artists use color in important ways in their work. Students will learn to mix colors, experiment with color, and discover optical illusions created by various color combinations. Found Art is a time for students to self direct their creative endeavors. Given the unique combination of unconventional art-making materials and uninhibited freedom of exploration, students discover new facets of their creative potential. Ms. Maier and the After Three instructors act as facilitators of the students visions, assisting them in the logistics of their designs. Students who register for Activity Power Hour or attend as a Drop-In will have the option to choose Art & Design upon arrival each day. Students who attend as a Drop-In are welcome to participate in Activity Power Hour. Time: 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. Day: Monday - Friday Grades: 1 - 5 Fee: $264 Includes the ability to stay in After 3 from 3:00 until 5:30 p.m. on the day of class.
